Senkowski Scholarship Award Competition:

Each spring, the Chemistry Department runs an award competition open to all freshmen, sophomore, and junior chemistry majors currently enrolled at Rutgers-Newark. To be eligible, a student must be a declared chemistry major by June of this year Award winners are selected based upon the evaluation of grade-point average and two letters of recommendation. The Chemistry Department may award as many as four $2500 scholarships (for tuition) this year. Applications are available in the Chemistry office, room 232 Olson Hall. The deadline for submitting applications is June 5.

Wells H. Keddie Scholarship:

This scholarship, awarded each year in the Spring, is in honor and memory of Wells H. Keddie, longtime labor activist, member of the AAUP/AFT Executive Council, and Professor Emeritus, of the department of Labor Studies and Employment Relations.
 
The scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate student
 

Who is expected to have earned a total of 60-90 credits by June of the semester preceding the fellowship (normally a Junior)

Who is enrolled in any of the Rutgers Undergraduate Colleges

Who combines solid scholarship with social activism
 
Nominations should be made by February 19, 2010. The award will be announced and distributed in the Spring 2010 semester.
 
The application/nomination process consists of the following:
 

A letter of nomination by a faculty member, describing the student's involvement in activism, whether on/off-campus, and explaining why the student would be a good choice for this particular award

A personal statement by the student, regarding both current activism and long-term goals

A copy of the student's transcript

A résumé listing the student’s activities and responsibilities

A letter of recommendation by a second faculty member

National Institutes of Health (NIH) Undergraduate Scholarship Program (UGSP)

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Undergraduate Scholarship Program (UGSP) offers competitive scholarships to students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are committed to careers in biomedical, behavioral, and social science health-related research. The program offers:

  • Scholarship support
  • Paid research training at the NIH during the summer
  • Paid employment and training at the NIH after graduation

Scholarship Support
The NIH UGSP will pay up to $20,000 per academic year in tuition, educational expenses, and reasonable living expenses to scholarship recipients. Scholarships are awarded for 1 year, and can be renewed up to 4 years.
